Aplastic anemia is a disorder in which the bone marrow fails to make enough blood cells. Bone marrow is the soft, inner part of bones in which the red and white blood cells, as well as platelets, are made by stem cells. Red blood cells carry oxygen to the tissues from the lungs, white blood cells fight infection and platelets seal damaged blood vessels to prevent bleeding.
